Pan Fried Duck in Plum Sauce | Chinese Style Recipe

Learn how to pan fried duck & make a plum sauce

Welcome to Xiao’s Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei and my goal is to make your cooking simple and exciting. My family still live in Inner Mongolia, in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and learn new Chinese recipes.

2 Duck Breasts
1 Tbsp Chinese Five Spice
½ Tsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Clear Honey
300g Plum Sauce
Salt to Taste

1. Make 4 to 5 slashes to the skin on the duck breasts
2. In a bowl, mix honey, salt and Chinese five spice together
3. Massage the mixture onto the skin side, leave to marinate for an hour
4. Place plum sauce in a small saucepan, add garlic powder and simmer for 5 minutes, remove from heat and allow to cool
5. Heat a frying pan over medium heat
6. Place the duck breasts skin side down, fry for 6 minutes
7. Turn the breasts to other side and fry for 6 minutes, remove from pan and leave to rest for a minute – cook longer if you prefer the meat less pink
8. Slice the duck breasts into medium slices, drizzle with plum sauce made earlier, serve with Chinese chun bing(single layer pancake), rice or salads
