Hey y’all from north Mississippi!
Thanksgiving is our family holiday around here, especially on Grizz’s side of the family. So we aren’t actually in Mississippi for this one, but out in Texas!
We are going to show you how we cook out turkey and dressing for special occasions. Turkey is simply, peanut oil and salt all over the outside and inside of the bird after you clean it out. Place in roasting pan and tent aluminum foil over it, making sure that it doesn’t touch the turkey. Cook at 350 for 7-9 hours or until the meat begins to pull off the bone, pouring off and reserving the juices as necessary. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to an hour to brown the turkey.
Dressing is two to three pans of completely cooled cornbread. It won’t crumble properly if it isn’t completely cooled. Finely crumble cornbread into roasting pan. Add cut up onions, one egg, and reserved turkey juices. Mix, adding chicken broth to make soupy. Salt, pepper, and sage to taste. Cook at 350 for 1-2 hours, adding more chicken broth as needed to keep it moist and salt, pepper, and sage to taste.
